Karen uses various counseling theories, including Cognitive-behavioral therapy, Solution-Focused Therapy, Positive Psychology Theory, and mindfulness. Karen enjoys helping others while using strength-based approaches and integrating various treatment therapies to best meet the needs and goals of her clients. She provides emotional support and guidance to adults and young adults specifically, focusing on stress and significant life changes that impact one’s life. She aims to empower her clients to create space, balance, time, and strength to process and embrace their needs. Karen has a master’s degree in Mental Health Counseling from Florida Gulf Coast University, as well as a master’s degree in Public Administration from Western Michigan University. She knew she wanted to become a counselor since learning about the field as a child. Karen started working in residential programs for at-risk youth while earning her bachelor’s degree, helping adolescents to manage their emotions and improve their relationships with their families. During her master’s degree program and licensure, she provided counseling services to adolescents and adults in multiple settings; hospitals, a women’s abuse shelter, and inpatient facilities. Prior to moving to North Carolina in 2019, Karen worked with the Collier County family court in Naples, FL, for almost 10 years, providing court-ordered therapy to families and adults in the community, where she continued to train and learn a variety of evidence-based practices to best suit her client’s needs.
